On October 2, 1881, a small group of men met in the basement of St. Mary’s church in New Haven Connecticut. They were called together by their Parish priest Father Michael J. McGivney. These men formed a fraternal society that one day would become the world’s largest Catholic family fraternal service organization. They sought strength in solidarity and security through unity of purpose and devotion to a holy cause. They vowed to be defenders of their country and families and their faith. Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism – these are the watchwords of the Knights of Columbus. As the Order has grown, its benevolence has multiplied. The Order continues to break all previous records for charitable contributions and volunteer service. St. Joseph's Council #9202 is continuing that tradition of service and charitable contributions. We are pleased to announce that in 2023, Council #9202 will be presenting two $1,000 scholarships to two deserving High School Seniors. One will be given to a Senior who is a member of our Parish comunity, the other from our local high school community. Please submit your application as soon as possible.
Deadline to Submit 2023 Scholarship Application is April 6, 2024
The boys who received the Bob Hamer scholarships for this year were Emiliano Ruiz and Gerardo Ramirez. Emiliano is starting his second year at University of Reno and Gerardo is starting his second year at Sierra College in Rocklin. They both work part time and want to help their communities. Gerardo wants to be a police officer which is very impressive for these times.
The Bob Hamer scholarship was set up 10 years ago to help boys who become Knights and are on their way to their career. When a Squire, who participates in multiple years of service can become eligible to receive $500.00 toward their education. Bob Hamer is a past Grand Knight for our council who participated as a Squire and was lead by a counselor who was his mentor. Mentoring is a big part of the Squires program along with helping young men on their path spiritually and mentally. Bob Hamer contributed much to our counsel and lived here in Lincoln.
